This past weekend, I had the pleasure to view the new Family movie coming to NBC on Friday, December 2, called Game of Life. We are a big movie family so I was beyond thrilled to view it before it aired on television. Proctor & Gamble and Walmart did it again with the release of their 9th family film for all to enjoy! While the most technology savvy people will enjoy seeing all the video graphic in this movie, I can also say with certainty, that you do not need any computer knowledge to enjoy the movie! The reason why this makes for a great family movie is the underlying themes of decision making involving children and dealing with difficult situations.
Synopsis
When industrious high school gamer Zach Taylor lands a prized scholarship to the prestigious Digital Institute of Game Design (DIGD), his future breaks wide open. The opportunity to study under gaming legend Marcus Bentton and alongside the countryโs most creative minds will certainly propel him into a successful career as a video game designer. That is, if he can pass the infamous freshman project that eliminates more than half of the class within the first three months.
Paired with brilliant yet socially awkward teammates Phillip and Donald, the trio persuades Sara Ramirez โ a determined and striking team leader with whom Zach has a history (and possibly a future) โ to join their team. Working off-campus in the teched-out Lincoln Alley loft, the four set out to involve the entire campus in a quirky new social interactive game. But as the group becomes entrenched in the project…(Visit Family Movie Night to read more)
Our reactions/thoughts to the movie:
My husband and I LOVED it! This movie brought many great emotions as we were watching the movie. First for any die-hard video game fan, you will love how the movie will bring you into the realm of how video games are designed. My husband commented how awesome it was to learn about the design process and how much goes into video gaming operations that we did not know about. More importantly though, the movie is filled with potent decision making and choosing what life decisions should be made. It is about sticking with what decisions you make and making the choices in life, whether right or wrong. It is about family, loyalty ,integrity , friendship, love, support, and about life struggles all wrapped in one beautiful movie. For those of you with older children, they will greatly enjoy watching the movie. I promise you that they will sit through the entire movie because with these life lessons (seen through the decision making of the main character Zach) also comes a movie with action, twists/turns, and fun. They will be captivated from beginning to end.
I really enjoyed previewing this movie. The storyline had me intrigued from the beginning and the characters each had their own special flare. The acting was also very well done. I really enjoy watching a family film and this was was no exception. You will really enjoy watching this as will the kids. I reviewed this one also. My fiance is a big gamer and I couldn't get him to get off WoW to watch it. LOL. I thought for sure he'd appreciate it, but…PRIORITIES. ๐ It IS a neat movie because a lot of people assume game designing is just all fun'n'games.
