One of my kids and my favorite stores, Justice, just released their first book titled “Ultra Squad, Adventures Under The StrangeBow.” This book was written by Julia Devillers (author of books like “Trading Faces” and “The Audition”) and illustrated by Rafael Rosado (illustrator and co-creator of “Giants Beware”). In this book, we are introduced to the four main characters, Posey, Lyric, Anna, and Sky. Posey has a passion for acting and her power is her ultra-sparkle bracelet. Lyric has a passion for music and her power is the ultra-sonic guitar. Anna has a passion for gymnastics and her power is the ultra-boost super speed. Finally, Sky has a passion for computers and the ultra-super-power of super smarts.
“Ultra Squad” follows the adventures of four tween girls as they battle an evil force threatening Earth, and use their magical girl powers to save the universe. With characters that teens and tweens can relate to, the story emphasizes inclusivity and diversity as the girls come together to discover that their unique personalities can truly make a difference in and out of this world.
Hayley was sent an advance copy of this book, and she loved meeting these four characters. The book is written as a graphic novel so it was really easy to follow and read all in one sitting. It shows how these four characters work together and form the Ultra Squad, who can take on anything in life. The wording is very telling and the illustrations are beautiful and extremely detailed.
Combining Ultra-Fierce, Ultra-Smart, Ultra-Brave, Ultra-Unique, and Ultra-Unstoppable, this is a book that will appeal to tween girls to show that when you come together, you have the ultimate #ultrasquad.
