With all of the games and toys I’ve been raving about lately, I thought my readers could use a break from geek nostalgia and my childhood adoration of all things Nintendo. With Christmas just finishing and so many new releases in the gaming world as well as those from the toy industry, I just couldn’t contain my enthusiasm! I know many parents who are still stressed to the max while on the hunt for those last minute gifts so along with giving my honest opinion of some of the latest releases I hope it was at least useful to some of my readers looking for their gift of the season.
Today though, I want to slow it down and get back to my educational parenting roots. With the winter upon us, this means that the kids will be home for several weeks with nothing to do but play with their new presents, eat us out of house and home and drive parents crazy. Depending on where you are and the weather from day to day, it might be unavoidable that your little ones are cooped up inside during the entirety of their school break but with their new presents and a little bit of screen time, you might not lose your sanity entirely.
Wonster Words app is here to help keep the kids occupied and their minds sharp over their Christmas vacation. Inspired by Sesame Street, the award winning app is compatible with both Apple and Android and is geared towards helping kids learn to sound out their words. I don’t know about my readers but that is a school skill that can sometimes still be a challenge for my youngest so giving it a try was a no brainer for us.
WORD GAME APPS:
Wonster introduces basic word families and 44 of the most common phonemes, using animated letters to put together a large variety of words within the app. The animated letters will act as an aide to help sound out the phonics, gliding vowels, and consonant blends as the audio portion is being played. For my kiddos, the best part was that once each word has been completed they were followed up by the cutest, most engaging animations as well as mini games that serve as incentive to do their best and succeed within the app.
Some key features of the app include:
- Learn ABC’s, Phonics and Spelling skills
- Hundreds of words, 12 word families and 12 original stories keep kids entertained and learning
- Encourages exploration and engagement without scoring, quizzes, limits or stress.
- Included stories include themes such as birthdays, friendships, etc.
- Added subjects such as Math, Science, Art and Music!
- Vowels soon to be included.
- Word Spelling Games
Ideally suited for little ones from ages 3 to 6, Wonster is a great addition to your learning library. It’s been our experience that the kids have been less reluctant to get back into more educational screen time since introducing Wonster and that they actually seem to enjoy the app rather than simply tolerating it. With reading being such a big thing in our family and the struggles that most kids go through in that department, I won’t hesitate to recommend Wonster to other parents who want to see their child improve in that department. Reading is life and should never feel like a chore. If you’re looking to entertain while educating & keeping kiddos busy over the upcoming break then Wonster is definitely an app to look into!
