I have been a tennis player since I was about 7 years old and in the least year or so, I decided to add the sport of pickleball to my weekly activities. I didn’t know much about Pickleball so I signed up with Pickleball shoes, a Pickleball raquet , and a good attitude. In my town, they have various lessons you can do from beginner to advanced. In the first cycle I signed up for the beginner class since I was just that but realized quickly that I was pretty good at this sport. My tennis definitely helped my Pickleball game. So I decided to move on to the Intermediate class and just the last session I was in the advanced class.
What people don’t realize about the sport of Pickleball is that it can be very hard. When I play tennis, we usually start out one back and one at the net. As the point progresses, both players move to the net and try to win the point. Also you get two times to serve in case your first one doesn’t land. Pickleball is different in that both players stand at the base line when the point is being served. Once the ball is returned, you need to let it bounce before moving up to the net. If you hit it in the air, the point is not yours. It is a big net game and once that first serve begins and bounces, both players play at the net to try to return the ball. It is a big game of “dinks” which is little hitting to win the point.
The most difficult part of the game for me is definitely scoring. It is based on a 11 point scoring system where you can not win any points if you are not serving. Only the service players can win the point. If you lose on your serve, your partner has a chance to serve and then you switch serves to the other team.
Pickleball is such a fun sport! I love to play both tennis and Pickleball and plan to do so for quite some time!
