Today was a sad day in Patriots Nation. Today Tom Brady officially retired which is a bit hard to take for all those that loved him. Being a big Tom Brady fan and football fan in general, I was very excited to screen Home Team (available now on Netflix) a few weeks back. I have to say I truly loved the movie as did my entire family.
CAST: Kevin James, Taylor Lautner, Rob Schneider, Jackie Sandler, Gary Valentine, Tait Blum, Maxwell Simkins, Jacob Perez, Bryant Tardy, Manny Magnus, Liam Kyle, Christopher Farrar, Merek Mastrov, Isaiah Mustafa, Christopher Titone, Ashley D. Kelley, Lavell Crawford, Allen Covert, Anthony L. Fernandez, Jared Sandler
SYNOPSIS: Two years after a Super Bowl win when NFL head coach Sean Payton is suspended, he goes back to his hometown and finds himself reconnecting with his 12 year old son by coaching his Pop Warner football team.
My Thoughts:
Home Team is based on the true story of NFL coach, Sean Payton and his challenges he faced when he was suspended for encouraging his players to hurt the opposing team members. During that year, he was brought on by his son’s Pop Warner team to help coach and bring the team back from a dismal start. Well you can guess what happened next?! His son’s team did so well and ultimately the bond that was lost during this scandal with his son was fixed in a sweet, endearing way. This movie promotes family struggles and the resolution of them, love, having confidence, and overall being a good person.
While the story is predictable, it is also a very sweet story clocking in at 90 minutes. I watched this with the entire family and not for a minute were they disengaged. Rather with the shortness of the movie and the easy storyline to follow, it definitely kept all of our interest even with it being predictable.
Kevin James does a great job at Sean Payton. He is very believable as NFL coach Sean Payton and puts his heart into the role. You feel all that he feels. The heart of the movie is the kids who do a fantastic job. I am sure we will be seeing more of them in the future.
I give this movie 3/5 stars. It is now rated #1 on Netflix so check it out today!
