I am a traveler. Also have been one and always will be one. In the times of the Pandemic it is hard to travel. I have only really visited locations such as New Hampshire and MA, which are the states next to mine. However, I have the traveling bug which I know I will have to wait but when I am ready, I got some great advice. Last week I had the chance to sit down with Psychotherapist & Author Dr. Mike Dow on the importance of Travel for Mental Health!
INTERVIEW WITH DR. MIKE DOW:
Dr. Mike Dow is the author of The Brain Fog Fix, Healing the Broken Brain, and Diet Rehab. I interviewed him why travel, even if it’s a quick trip, can boost your mental health. He was very informative on the topic of travel and it was great to talk to him on this. He discussed how to prepare yourself for stay safe and how to deal with COVID stress and anxiety while traveling.
- Why is travel important to your mental health?
We are seeing Americans are more depressed and anxious than ever. We need travel now more than ever. Research has shown that travel is a great reset for the brain such as increased attention span, more creativity, more birth of brain cells, etc. Travel is very needed!
2. How can you create family time to increase your mentality?
Positive emotion brings a lot of happiness such as remembering when you went to Disney the first time. Those trips create those positive emotions when you are feeling blue or feeling stressed out. It is very important to create these memories and not be all negative when we think of Covid.
3. What are the best places to travel during Covid?
People are saying more secluded vacations are the way to go and using places such as Hot Wire to book. Walking around the beach and away from city places are what are a lot of people are doing now. Everything can be an energy recharge including a beautiful hike or an outdoor workout.
4. How do you deal with anxiety around Covid 19 while traveling?
It is important to be prepared more than be anxious. Be responsible but focus on the things you can control. On Hot Wire, they have safety features that you can see with each hotel.
