Runny noses are a part of life, especially if you have kids. I have three beautiful, glorious children. They are also “snotty” children when cold season rolls around and are miserable when the colds hit. My two oldest are in school full-time, and my youngest will be ready for preschool soon. That means runny noses are in full effect for all three kids, and most likely, for my husband and I as well. No one escapes during cold season!

Battle Runny Noses
We’re not allowed to pull our kids out of school until cold season is over (and don’t think I haven’t thought about it) so what is a parent to do? Prevention, moms and dads. Prevention. The healthier we can keep our kids, the less colds they’ll have. The less colds they have, the less gross, snotty incidents there are.
Fruits and Veggies
Lots of fruits and veggies are always a good thing, but they’re even more important during cold season. Fruits and veggies are full of vitamins and minerals that can help kids’ bodies stay healthier. Citrus fruit is especially good around this time because it’s packed with vitamin C.
Water, Water, Water
Hydration is a huge part of staying healthy. The human body is around 75% water, and it needs to stay hydrated to function properly. Staying hydrated also keeps their mucous membranes nice and moist to help reduce the chances of germs causing a problem.
Plenty of Rest
Battling colds and the runny noses that go with them requires lots of sleep. Children need at least 8 hours of sleep. Up to 10 hours is better.
Wash Those Hands
Kids are terrible about putting their fingers in their mouths, so be sure you drill handwashing into them until it becomes second nature.
Tissue. Lots of Tissue
No matter how careful you are, your kids will have runny noses. When that happens, you need lots of tissue on hand. I like to keep Scotties tissue in the house and in the car at all times. They have super cute designs that let me fight runny noses and still keep it adorable. Their tissue boxes are stylish and let me bring a little bit of cuteness to the house while I also bring comfort to my family. They have designs ranging from florals to landscapes and more and in a wide range of colors. There’s something for everyone. Head over to the Scotties tissue website and check out their new designs for yourself. They’re pretty great.
