**I received an all expense paid trip thanks to Disney and ABC studios. All my opinions are my own and not swayed by outside sources.**
A few weeks back, myself and 24 other bloggers had the absolute privilege to interview some of the cast and talent of the Tomorrowland movie, which hits theaters this Friday. While I knew some of the talents’ big names such as George Clooney and Damon Lindelof, I was less familiar with the main girl lead, Britt Robertson. However, when I told twitter all about who we were interviewing, I noticed that, what seemed like thousands of my followers, were so excited to hear all about Britt. Seriously, I “met” a few girls on twitter that have fan clubs dedicated to her. So in my heart to heart, I knew I needed to learn much more about the one and only Britt Robertson.
Before I left, I researched her a bit and found out she is such a prominent actress, even at the young age of 25. From reading her credentials, I know she has a long career ahead of her filled with many promising roles. If you are not familiar with Britt Robertson, she has been in films such as the recently released, The Longest Ride, Cake, White Rabbit, Delivery Man, Scream 4, and Ask Me Anything to name a small few of her accomplished roles. After reading about her, I was more than excited to actually get the chance to sit down with her face to face and learn all about her role of Casey Newton in Tomorrowland. Since you all have not seen the movie yet, Casey Newton, played by Britt Roberston is one of the main female leads. She is a bright and vibrant high schooler who has a drive to not only see the world optimistically but make big changes to achieve things. She is full of love and hope to change the world for the better.
The day finally came when Britt Robertson entered the room and right away I was in awe of her. She is just the cutest and spunkiest actress! I also have to add she has a killer wardrobe! I wanted the dress that she wore in that room that way. Anyway, we all applauded her and she was gracious enough to thank us and was eager to begin our interview.
Our first question revolved around the audition process and how she landed the role of Casey Newton in Tomorrowland. We were all amazed to learn that she auditioned for the role of Casey Newton in November 2012! Yes that would be 3 years ago! She had multiple auditions and there was many steps in the process before she was asked to do a full read with Brad Bird. Then after the read, she was flown to Vancouver to do a full screen test with Raffey Cassidy, who plays the role of Athena in Tomorrowland. A week after this screen test, she was given the part! I have so much admiration and determination for her rigorous audition process but in truth, I don’t see anyone so fit to play this role as she was!
Then we wanted to know how it all felt to her when she finally landed the role! Her eyes lit up when we asked this question!
” To be honest with you, it really was an overwhelming moment. I still remember in my mind as it being like the most euphoric feeling that I’ve ever had. I was happy and I was elated and I was crying and I was just so excited. It was such a cool movie to be a part of and I loved the story so much and also the people attached to it. I just knew that it was going to be a changing point for me in terms of career.” -Britt Robertson
Just like George Clooney, she told us how much she loved the themes and stories of Tomorrowland. It covers the future and how we could all make a difference in our futures. With hard working and determination, we can all take our future to where we want it to go. She took on this role for this reason and how it provides children, and adults alike, powerful messages. She also loved being the hero of this inspirational, powerful, and wonderful movie!
“It’s a really great thing to be the hero of a movie like this. A Disney film and to be a young woman and, and carry a movie like this. I found it really intimidating. Luckily Brad Bird is such a wonderful human being and he’s a family man. He understands people on a very real level, so I think he gave me the encouragement to be brave and just take it one day at a time.”-Britt Robertson
What Britt Robertson told us next was very interesting. As a young actress, she could be ominous about the future, as so many of us are. We just turn on the news and are pessimistic. I think this is one of the reasons I rarely turn on the news because it makes me so sad to hear just everyday news. However, as her character Casey Newton, she realized that the future is good and we have to look at it with our chins up. We need to make a vow to ourselves to give our future all we have. We have to realize that we are all lucky to be given the good fortune to change our future in any which direction we chose.
Next of course we needed to know how it was working with George Clooney and Tim McGraw. She said Tim McGraw was simply amazing and a fantastic family man. She loved all the experiences with him. She said that working with George Clooney, she had all these expectations of what the whole experience would be like working with one of the biggest Hollywood names. She mentioned that he is completely himself rather than the big name of George Clooney we always hear about. Like our interview with him, she mentioned that he was so down to earth and a pleasure to work with. She also remarked besides him being simply amazing, he also loved playing practical jokes on a daily basis with the cast and crew.
“He is still the person that he wants to be. Working with him, it made me realize you can still be who you want to be in this industry. You don’t have to be tainted by the process or the people. He’s so professional and I just learned a lot from him.”-Britt Robertson
One word that was used over and over to explain the Tomorrowland is retro-futuristic. Without giving too much away, it is set in the future and what life would be like. I think this term is absolutely perfect to describe what this movie is about. We were interested in knowing from Britt Robertson if she needed to prepare for her role in a certain way with the themes that were involved in creating this movie.
“I didn’t think about that. I’ve realized that if you start getting caught up in ideas or genres then it can actually effect a film in a negative way because you’re thinking too much about the end goal, like the result. And not enough about the story and the moment.”-Britt Roberston
Of course, we were all very interested in her favorite scenes of the movie. This movie is truly fantastic and each scene simply blows you way. It did to me anyway and I am sure you will see the same when you head to your theaters this Friday! She mentioned to us she loved all the pin sequences. You need to see the movie to see what the pins are all about, but as you can see from the trailer above, it does take you to a magical place when you touch the pin.
There was one scene in the movie where she constantly hits someone with a bat. She looked like such a professional doing it and she told us that she was actually given lessons. When the shooting for this scene came, she just went for it and nailed it in the movie. I loved watching this scene in the movie with such raw emotions.
We continued the interview by wanting to know what the first scene she shot.
“The very first scene I shot was me out in the wheat field doing a lot of the pin experiences so that was a really big day because it’s kind of a very technical process. With the pins, they just stuck me out in the wheat and they had a crane come in and we were also trying to be very careful of not ruining the wheat. It was a very challenging task because my hands had to be in very specific positions.”-Britt Robertson
In our interview with Raffey Cassidy coming this week, she told us Britt Robertson was a huge role model to her. We wanted to turn around the question on Britt and ask her what she learned from Raffey being in one movie with her?
“I’ll tell you the main thing that I learned from Raffey. I remember early on in the process working with Brad because he’s so involved and he has so much direction, to remember to take the direction and kind of make it your own. I remember trying to do that a lot of times and he’d be asking very specific things and I would sort of have a conversation with him about it and then I would watch him give Raffey direction and all she would say is okay. Okay. I was like that’s how you take direction. You just say okay and you do it and you’re professional and you just say okay! I really like the pact with myself from that point forward. I was like, I’m going to do what Raffey does and I’m just going to say okay and I’m going to give it my best shot. Whatever he asks me to do, I’m just going to do it and it actually really worked out for me. By the end of it, I just completely trusted Brad and I knew his vision is the vision that we’re going to bring to life.
Raffey’s professionalism and her spirit throughout the entire film, not matter how long the day was, no matter what they were asking of her, physically, emotionally, she just did it. She did it to the best of her ability and I think that’s a huge lesson for me.”-Britt Roberston
There is a scene in the movie where George Clooney throws powder in her mouth many times during a scene. She told us that it was actually Pixie Sticks and she had a blast with George filming this scene. Again she reiterated what a good and funny man George Clooney was. She also told us during the scene in the movie where she chugged 2 coca-colas, they did this take MANY times to perfect it. As much as she loves coke, it was a bit much after awhile and it was hard to go on. These two awesome scenes will be available for your viewing eyes when you see Tomorrowland this weekend!
We ended the interview asking about Hugh Laurie. I am a huge Hugh Laurie fans so I absolutely loved her answer!
“Oh, Hugh Laurie is just such a gem! I remember being in the makeup trailer with him because I was often there when he was getting his hair and makeup and wardrobe done. He would be there and every day it was just like a new fun fact about life, but not even a fun fact. He would give you us stories and theories on life. Like he’s really informed of everything that’s going on so I sort of looked at him like a book of knowledge and he’s also really talented. I would love playing music in the trailer and just like hearing him appreciating it so much.”-Britt Robertson
We ended the interview with this group shot and then she left the room to continue on with her press junket. I truly can’t wait to see Tomorrowland again because she was so AWESOME in the movie. Her acting is stellar and there is going to be so much more of her to come in the future!
I want to remind all of you that Britt Roberston can be seen as Casey Newton in Disney’s Tomorrowland movie opening May 22! That is this weekend! Perfect for the entire family! Be sure to follow Tomorrowland on Facebook and Twitter to learn more!
