We live about an hour and a half from Block Island. It is by far my favorite place to visit in the summer. If you have never been, you need to come visit us in Rhode Island and experience the beauty! I also love talking about local companies in my area and one that I recently found out about is Block Island Organics. This is a sun care brand that incorporates a line of sunscreen and sunburn relief products for children and adults alike.
About Block Island Organics from owner, Will:
*The business started out of my sister’s eco spa on Block Island called Koru Eco Spa (www.koruecospa.com). Our philosophy is to actively enjoy the outdoors with motto “Play Smart. Play Safe. Non-Toxic Suncare.” As such, we strive to make safe, effective and lovable sun care products and educate the public on sun care issues. We are also a majority women owned company as my sister and I co-founded Block Island Organics and my fiancé is also a part owner. *
We received a few sample bottles for review and I am already in love with their sunscreens. They come on very evenly, and are not overly greasy. So many sunscreens leave you with an oily feeling, but I have never had this problem when I tried Block Island Organics. Their sunscreens are non-toxic mineral based (zinc and titanium), as opposed to chemical based, and include a Baby SPF 30 (this product is zinc only), an SPF 15, SPF 30 and SPF 40 product. They also have a sunscreen relief product. Their products are non-comedogenic, vegan formulated, paraben free, phthalate free, nano particle free, artificial fragrance free, non-eye irritating (for the sunscreen).
With sunscreens, I have problems with getting it in the kids eyes. However, because the formula is non-eye irritating, the kids are never complaining. This is a first with them and sunscreen! The sunscreens are also not tested on animals, made in the USA and highly rated by the Environmental Working Group: http://www.ewg.org/
Be sure to check out Block Island Organics today! Let’s keep kids and adults alike safe in the sun!

I’ve been looking for an organic sunscreen to keep on hand for when I babysit. I don’t like using the chemical stuff on the little ones. This sounds like a great brand.

Love Block Island and love the fact that this product is made right in my backyard. Great idea and definitely needed.

It is great that it doesn’t irritate your eyes – I hate when you get some in your eyes… it usually stings so much!

My sunscreen always attracts mosquitoes, I’m sure because of the fragrances. This would be a better solution!

Sunscreen is so important. I love that this one has no bad things and has zinc.
